Dustin Machi, the current owner of MyDebate.org is missing out and is the latest victim of not understanding domain names. Although he was smart enough (or lucky) to own a very similar domain to the one that was announced to Millions during the Presidental debate last night, MyDebates.org. MyDebate.org which is more clear and what is likely Thousands visited last night and today and probally for a while, land on a standard registrar park page!

This brings up a couple things… One, owning the Plural and Nonplural versions are very important to domain name owners with full sites on one of the domains.

Secondly, it brings up clear proof that owning the "other" version of a domain that get’s a good deal of traffic is not a bad idea as long as the domain is a Generic. MyDebate.org has an Alexa.com rank in the 600K range and I would bet Dustin doesn’t even know the amount of traffic it’s getting!

MySpace.com is running the real debate system and owns MyDebates.com but if you leave off the www. the page doesn’t resolve. Dah! Secondly, the domain that was used during the live debate last night on TV was MyDebates.org . MySpace doesn’t appear to even Own the .org as whois shows BBH (Bartle Bogle Hegarty) as the owner which appears to be a marketing company, but the domain name does forward to MySpace.com .
