In an email this morning from Afternic.com which is owned by NameMedia, announced that they have teamed up with Godaddy.com to offer AfternicDLS domains on Godaddy.
If you list domain names for sale on Afternic.com and use the Expanded Promotion, your domain names will now be listed on the Godaddy.com auction platform.
This is a big deal!
Godaddy is the #1 domain name registrar in the world! Godaddy runs TV commercials all the time which no other domain company does! This equal’s A Lot of people that go to Godaddy.com and search for domain names.
Now one downside to this, is the domains are only listed currently in the Auction part of the Godaddy site. So if somebody does an Available Domain Search on Godaddy and types in the exact domain name that you own and are offering for sale via AfternicDLS using Expanded Promotion, the domain wouldn’t show up on that page to say it’s in the auction section of the site (what I saw when I tested it).
I hope they improve the system TO show that if somebody does an exact match search, it will display the domain is for sale in the auction section of Godaddy.
Currently, Godaddy will show Premium Domains listed below the search box after a search, but did not list the exact domains that I searched for that Are listed in the Auction section of Godaddy.
Even without the search function as I would like it, I think this is a strong reason you should consider listing your domain names with Afternic and use the expanded promotion. Besure to list each of your domain names with a category and it’s always best to set a Price.
I would think if you do not set a price, it will not show up on Godaddy…. because what can they put for a price.
Afternic.com charges a $19.95 yearly fee to use it’s service along with a 10% commission with it’s Basic Promotion and a 20% commission for it’s Expaned Promotion which allows your domain names to be listed on a lot of sites like BuyDomains.com, Godaddy.com (now) DomainTools.com, DomainsBot.com, DomainDiscover.com and more. Don’t forget the Sales Team as well!

I’ve received the email as well, this is a really good move from NameMedia

All this shows is that you can list names with Afternic DLS at 20% and get on Go Daddy or you can list them on Go Daddy directly for 10%.

@ Mark,
Using the AfternicDLS 20% is a big time, time saver. I know it’s a pain in the ass to list all your domains on Godaddy. Then keep relisting and relisting.. Plus using the 20% get’s you on BuyDomains.com which markets to end users also. Plus the other sites I stated. I think the expanded promotion is worth it.

That’s really strange. When I signed up for AfternicDLS it said that their domains were going on godaddy . . . that was like 6 months ago . . Is this really new or was that a lie back then to get me to sign up?
Adam
Also, Mark where do your names show up when you list them on godaddy tdnam ? I don’t think they show up on whois searches from the home page. Do afternicDLS show up on homepage searches ? I know Fabulous DDN names do. I think godaddys percentage on listing direct with them was a ridiculous
If you got to your account manager tool and click the “Cash In” icon and go to “Premium Listing” you’ll see. Godaddy wants “Between 32 – 62%”
WTF !?

In December 2008, I listed about 150 domains for sale with Afternic under their expanded promotion. A month or so later, I was randomly checking names at Buy Domains and discovered that some of mine were listed in the wrong category. I did not check the entire 150 names, but I immediately called Afternic customer service, reported the problem and gave them the names I had determined were incorrectly categorized. I was told that others had reported the same problem and that it would be resolved soon. A month passed and it was not – even after several follow up calls.
Then, on March 3, 2009 when I received the first email from Peter Lamson telling of the upcoming changes with the expanded promotion program, I seized the opportunity to ask for his assistance in getting my names in the right category.
By return email, Mr. Lamson stated that “accurate classification makes a big difference in sales velocity!’ and assured me Customer Service Manager, Tim Bonehill would give me the assistance I needed to have the problem resolved. Mr. Bonehill then emailed to say that an “overall fix” was scheduled for March 26 but if I cared to provide a list of domains that were of particular concern to me, he would send a request to their off-shore developers to spot check and correct those I was currently having problems with.
When I attempted to again compile a list, what I discovered was that not only were some names in the wrong category, but five out of the first seven names I checked were not even listed at Buy Domains. Discouraged that the problem was apparently worse than I’d thought, I reported my findings and my feelings to Mr. Bonehill, who, on March 6, responded with an apology but reneged on his previous suggestion of an immediate fix and instead fell back on the March 26 date promising “diligent follow up, ensuring these issues are squashed for good within our next technology release (March 26)”; he also offered me a years free membership and asked that I contact him anytime if I had further questions.
I responded by accepting his apology and his promise of diligent follow up. I also asked about another listing irregularity I had subsequently discovered.
Bottom Line:
Mr. Bonehill did not reply to my email and as of today, the problems with my domain names still exist.

@ Margaret
I have had several domains with issues as well. Ones I set categories for and later checked and the very same domains I set, nothing stayed.

I wouldn’t say Afternic’s system is perfect by any means and hope the March 26th upgrade is a good one. I personally have made many suggestions.
