I dreaded upgrading computers for a very long time because I was fully aware of the pain in the butt of moving everything from the old computer to the new. Well, the time has come to do so, since I work online.. it’s important to have things work properly, quickly and look good at the same time!
I couldn’t ask for more from my old Sony Viao desktop that was running XP. I got over 7 years out of it but it was maxed out to it’s 160GB hard drive and the 1GB of memory were holding me back. With that computer, I had a 19" LCD flat screen (not widescreen).
The new machine maxes out at 16GB of memory and 1TB hard drive and runs a quad core. I went with a 25" widescreen this time. This monitor puts the old one to shame for sure! It’s simply stunning just looking at it and during the transfer process to the new computer, I had the 19" older screen next to the new one…. which clearly shows what I have been missing!
Going from XP to Windows 7 is a big change. I loved and used Outlook Express on my old machine and sadly Windows has went away with Outlook. If I was aware of this… it likely would of held me back from changing even longer. The email transfer process took me the longest and we all know how important our email is! For now, I am trying the Windows Live Mail but may change that down the road.
The transfer was not easy. Moving "files and folders" was really not a problem but when it came time to move applications (programs), that was where it really started to suck. That is until I found PcMover professional. That program worked like a dream and moved over all my stuff in about 5 hours. If you are ever switching computers, I suggest you check out PcMover. It worked very well for me and is not 100% perfect but it would of saved me a days worth of work if I would of found out about it ahead of time. Plus all the headaches!
So this is my first blog post from the new computer system. It will take me a little bit to figure out Windows 7 and all the new functions that go with it, so my blogging my stay light for a couple days as it has been already due to changing systems.
Happy Domaining!
