It has been awhile since I have done my "Off the wall domain name stats" so I figured I would do another one. These are some stats that are not always seen and are pretty interesting numbers. These stats show domain names that are moving from one parking company to another, which registrars are the biggest gainers and losers etc.
The stats include domain names in the following extensions only: .com, .net, .info, .org, .us and .mobi. Domain stats are from 2-27-2009.
Registrar: The top 5 domain name registrars by volume are:
- Godaddy.com with 29,598,801
- eNom.com with 8,874,698
- Tucows.com with 7,294,281
- NetworkSolutions.com with 6,624,499
- MelbourneIT.com with 4,490,508
Of the top 5, the top 3 all had positive gains in domains for the past 30 days. Godaddy always has the largest and that was 631,198 domains! That is an Amazing number! Tucows had a positive gain of 75, 277 and eNom with 37,382.
Network Solutions had a lose of 1,451 and MelbourneIT.com had a net loss of 13,780.
There are currently 1095 ICANN accredited domain name registrars.
Parking:
RevenueDirect.com has a total of 226,185 domain names on it’s revenuedirect.com servers. Revenue Direct was just purchased by Sedo.com . SedoParking.com holds 1,891,075 domain names using it’s parking service.

Parked.com comes in with 772,642
NameDrive.com comes in with 492,850
TrafficZ.com comes in with 304,271
Hosting:
Godaddy offers hosting and I would say probally the highest provider, but they use mainly the same domain names for servers for just about everything (DomainControl). SecureServer.net is their main hosting server and holds 1,354,033 domains. With that said,
DreamHost.com comes in with numbers that I can tell directly with 811,263 domains on the dreamhost server.
BlueHost.com comes in with 695,886
HostMonster.com with 495,328
HostGator.com with 439,218
RackSpace.com with 407,320
If you are interested in comparing some numbers, I have done several posts like this over the past year or so. You can see all the off the wall domain name stats post here.

Ha! I used to work for FatCow, and then their parent company EIG. FatCow was a small hosting company out of Albuquerque. Sold in 2004 to EIG. EIG is the shared hosting powerhouse behind more than 20 well known hosting brands including Powweb, Bizland, IPOWER and a few lesser knowns, like FatCow.
