Here is another round of Off The Wall Domain Name Stats. These are stats that are not often seen and can be used to watch trends and what’s going on behind the scenes. The stats are from Yesterday, March 27, 2009.

All of these stats are based on Domain Name Server changes and only involve .com, .net, .info, .org, .us and .mobi . If you are looking to compare these stats, you can do so to the Feb 28th write up I did here or from 5-17-2008 .

One thing that never changes with these stats, is the massive movements between domain parking providers.

3,588 domains moved from NameDrive.com to NameKing.com parking page (mainly tasted domains) NameKing is owned by Oversee.net

3,483 domains moved from Fabulous.com to NameKing.com parking page.

1,123 domains moved from Godaddy to SedoParking

882 domains moved from eNom to SedoParking

The top 5 domain name registrars has not changed (in order) but the volume has changed! Godaddy.com, the largest domain name registrar in the world has passed the 30 Million domain name undercontrol mark! In Feb 2008, they were at the 29 Million mark!

Network Solutions use to rank #3 for registrars, but lost that rank to Tucows about June of 2008. Ever since I have been doing the "off the wall domain name stats", the 30 day change for NSI has always been in the Negative. This time is no different.

To further rank Godaddy even Stronger then the current market share they own, it’s sister company Wild West Domains which is the reseller side of Godaddy, holds the #7 rank, with a total of 3,260,487 domains under it’s control. They had a positive 30 day gain of 5,980. With that # 7 rank, beats out major domain registrars like Register.com, Moniker.com and Fabulous.com . Currently, 15 registrars in total hold over 1 Million domain names in it’s control. There are currently 1,117 ICANN accredited domain name registrars.

Odds and ends

SedoParking.com currently has 1,964,104 domains parking with it’s service.

DreamHost.com currently has 825,935 domains on it’s dreamhost.com server.

HostGator.com currently holds 466,543 domains on it’s hostgator.com server

BlueHost.com currently holds 721,289 domains on it’s bluehost.com server

HostMonster.com currently hold 516,356 domains on it’s hostmonster.com server

BuyDomains.com currently owns approx 891,724 domain names. Out of those, 875,706 are also on it’s this-domain-for-sale.com servers.

NameDrive.com has 478,279 domain names using it’s parking service.

TrafficZ.com has 295,242 using it’s parking service.

Tucows.com currently has approx 148,371 domains in Expired Status.

NetworkSolutions.com currently has 91,315 domains in Expired Status.

MostWantedDomains.com uses the same DNS tactic that BuyDomains does and currently holds 69,899 on it’s domain servers. One server matches it’s domain and the second is this-domain-is-4-sale.com

WhyPark.com currently has 57,986 domains using it’s service.

Register.com currently has 41,708 domains currently in expired status.

DirectNic.com currently has 42,088 domains currently in expired status.

Wordpress.com hold 38,321 domain names on it’s servers, which suprised me a little.
