I was doing some research today after having my dental work done yesterday. I tried out the Sedation Dentistry process because I had so much work that needed to be done and I enjoyed it. Plus I was bidding on SleepDentistry.com at NameJet.com . So in my research, I found out that Sedation Dentistry was searched for 204 times daily, compared to 66 times for Sleep Dentistry. I wanted to see the status of SedationDentistry.com after seeing the numbers .

It is registered and is being used as a forwarded domain? So what does it forward to? Dentist.com? Nope, SedationDentalCare.net . I was pretty shocked they would use a 3 word .net domain name first and to top it off, the term Sedation Dental Care gets 0 daily searches compared to 244 daily searches for Sedation Dentistry! They currently rank 7th on Google for the term Sedation Dentistry, but I can promise you, if they were using the Great domain (SedationDentistry.com) over the crappy one, they would rank #1.

Why would a company do this? The only reason I see behind it, is Branding and the companies name is Sedation Dental Care, but on the whois has Davidian & Associates as the company name? No matter what their "Brand is" They own the crown jewel for their industry and they are not using it correctly. For the internet and marketing in general, they are going at this wrong. For the brick and morter part, call yourself what you want, but online, market yourself as SedationDentistry.com so you can get the traffic you deserve owning a domain like that!

For advertising, what sounds better and would be easier to remember…. SedationDentistry.com or SedationDentalCare.net? I think it’s pretty clear. Plus if they didn’t forward the domain, they would rank #1 on search engines, instead of 7th and in return, bring in more business! They already own the asset, now they just have to figure out how to use it correctly.
