Shutterfly Purchases Treat.com Domain Name

Shutterfly Inc. has purchased the sweet domain name Treat.com from Tucows according to whois records in early November.

The domain name is still currently listed on BuyDomains with a buy now type price tag of $250,000 so I think it’s fair to say that the sales price was in that range.

I wasn’t able to dig up anything relating to "treat" for Shutterfly currently but when a company drops nearly a quarter million bucks on a domain name, they have plans for it! What those plans are for Treat.com is currently unknown but I’m sure we will find out sooner than later. The domain currently resolves to a generic MarkMonitor landing page.

I have reached out to Tucows for comment and will update if or when I get a reply. Either way, another great domain name is off the market and Shutterfly picked a nice one to purchase.

Update: Tucows replied that the domain has changed ownership but is unable to share the sales price.

Update 2:  4/16/2012 Shutterfly has launched a greeting card site on Treat.com
