In an article on Yahoo! Tech yesterday announced the 20th Anniversary of the World Wide Web.

Tim Berners-Lee and other scientists of (CERN) paved the way to start the web.

So if the web was created in 1989, making it 20 years old yesterday, why was the first domain name registered in 1985?

Symbolics.com was registered March 15, 1985.

Well the internet was really created Before the Web was created! I am not an expert at this but I had to look into it a little because it made me scratch my head a little.

So the Internet started in the late 1960's and  early 1970's.

The first commercialisation of an ISP in the 1980's.

Creation of the The Web, WWW, (World Wide Web) in  1989.

The first web browser was created in 1990.

It is reported the first website created was by CERN and launched Aug 6, 1991. It was also the very first Web Directory.

The Internet and the World Wide Web are not one and the same. The Internet is a global data communications system. I can't say I knew the Internet and the Web were two different things. Intersting stuff. Wikipedia has lots of interesting info you wish to explore more about the Internet and the WWW (World Wide Web) .

I do know, that the net is still very, very young and domain names play a very vital part of it! With the first website only being created in 1991 is something pretty crazy if you think about it! Only about 18 years ago. Hundreds of years ago the first passenger car was invented.

Think how fast the net has grown in it's very short life so far. It has been reported that there are 1.5 Billion Internet users as of Jan 2009. The World population is approx 6.7 Billion and approx 32 Billion searches are done on Google.com Each Month! That is only ONE website!!!!

The domain name drop business is a tight one and not easy for the "little guy" to beat out the domain name registrars but knowing the exact drop order of .com and .net domain names does hurt beating out the rest!

.com & .net drop times are Daily and start at 1 PM CT and end around 2:15 PM CT but often run a little longer depending on the size of the drop list for the day.

Now will you be able to beat out the domain registrars? No, not likely but this will greatly help the people that have built scripts to grab domain names as they drop. This will even help out the people that try and hand register domain names as they drop. Knowing the drop order allows you to know when to "send your fire power" to try and grab your specific domain name(s) you are interested in.

It will be best to use a Live Whois scanner to keep up with the exact drop. I do not have one of those, but I'm sure one can be built or Dan himself may offer one.

I use the registry for .com & .net domains Verisign Whois as it is Real Time and simply hand check domains to see if they had dropped yet, which will give you a pretty good idea of where in the list the drop is.

The drop runs really fast BTW.

If you are really interested in a PendingDelete domain name that is dropping, it is always best to place a backorder with the leading domain name dropcatchers like SnapNames.com, Pool.com, NameJet.com and I have even been seeing Godaddy.com grabbing several PendingDelete domains with medium quality on backorders. Godaddy offers an $18.99 backorder fee which is much cheaper then the others, but Godaddy's is also an Up Front Charge, where the others are not. If Godaddy does not grab your domain you were interested in, you get a Credit to use at a later time.
