After writing today’s post about NetSol front running, I was contact by Shashi from NSI. Shashi watches the social media to gather feedback for NSI and that alone was a bit suprising and I was glad to hear that. Shashi and I spoke on the phone for about 45 minutes and I went over several issues and not just the front running as I see it. We also spoke about the 3 days it takes when you send in a support email and ways to improve the service they provide to protect FROM front running.
I do think the service can be good, if they do it right. Currently if you search for an available domain, and you back arrow out of there is a pop-up window (that seems super long) and has a Yes and Cancel button. I did it by accident but click Yes and that is what "holds" the domain name. So it’s not very clear. I also expressed that the domain should be Attached to the person who wants it reservered. You do not have to login to reserve the domain now, so how does NSI know WHO to hold it for? Plus they only "Hold" .com’s and no other TLD.

Tucows auction format is not one of the most popular places, but from time to time they do have some good expired domains. So today I was playing around and searching for some domain names. I personally like 4 Letter .com domains and when I click Advanced Search and put in what I needed to display the 4 letter .com’s either coming up for auction or that are currently up for auction, I would get "We have found no results that match your search".
I found that a bit odd. So I went and used a "Secret" method and looked how many 4 letter .com’s Tucows REALLY has that are expired and should be at auction. Hmmmmmm 109…….
So they have 109 4 letter .com’s expired and not a single one is listed on their auction service. I guess all you can say is… That’s Interesting! I don’t know what’s up, but it doesn’t look good from my standpoint!

I know this has been talked about and talked about but they keep on doing it! They must think by putting a little info on their site that it’s ok to keep doing it!
Now I don’t really care if they do it, because they do have "Options" for the customer to opt out of the Hold while doing an availability search at NSI (also known as a whois search). They make it a real pain for their customers to Remove the hold as well if the customer would choose to register the domain with another registrar like Godaddy.com or Moniker.com etc.
One thing they should do if ICANN keeps letting them do it, is not make it so easy to see what They Are Holding! Heck, I will make it even EASIER! Here’s the list!
