I have been a fan of the TV show American Choppers featuring the Teutul family for sometime now and it has been fun not only watching the show, but watching the business grow over the years.

At the end of last season, the Teutul family was breaking up with heavy fueds between the father (Paul Sr.), the designer son (Paul Jr.) and Mikey.

It was clear at the end of last seasons show that Paul Jr was going on his own and starting a new company called Paul Jr Designs.

Well, last night the new season of American Choppers started and it included some of Paul Jr and his new design company. From a web aspect, I wanted to pick apart how I think they did to represent the new company online and how they did to allow for people to find them.

BikeBandit.com-30 % Off Nolan Cruise Helmet (468x60)

~ The domain name used for the company is PaulJrDesigns.com . A+ on this one, as it matches the company name exactly. Easy to spell and .com . Covering typo bases they did not do so great.  Since Designs is plural, it is good to own the singular version as well for those who can forget the S. They do not own that domain and it will get visitors. Since JR is an acronym, it is good to own the full spelling of the word as well. ( PaulJuniorDesigns.com ) They do not own that domain name either. The reason for owning this domain name is because of Word Of Mouth. Saying Junior can be thought of as JR or Junior.

~ The website is nice and clean looking and includes many features a website needs. Blog, Forum, Store, Videos, Pictures and more. The site shows good social networking as well, displaying their Twitter account which also hold the matching account name PaulJrDesigns . They currently do not include a Facebook fan page, which they should.

A couple of the bad things with the site, the social networking account is not very active. Only 1 tweet. The majority of the "store" items are all "coming soon" when you mouse over the tabs. This prevents people from being able to purchase the items they are offering for sale! This shows they dropped the ball a bit with not being ready for when the show launched. Overall, I would give the site a B- on this one.

Now one very important thing is to allow people to be able to Find You on the net. This is done by using a make sense domain name as they did, advertising and SEO.

PaulJrDesigns.com ranks #1 in Google for the search term paul jr designs, which is vital. The problem is, they (likely the web developers they hired) do not use all the tools in place to let web searchers know it is what they are looking for!

Here is the first result on Google when searching for paul jr designs :

PaulJrDesigns.com Meta Description

You will notice the Meta Description (middle row of text) is basically not set and just grabs some random data! This is not good! This is a vital tool that allows you approx 150 characters to invite people into your website. These 150 characters allow you to put in vital keywords to let readers know who you are, what you offer and more.

Keywords are important in the meta description, but I think inviting the reader in is more important and has to be used in the meta description. Something like the following is needed:

Welcome to Paul Jr Designs. Innovative design services provided by Paul Teutul Jr. You have seen his motorcycle designs, now come and see his product designs.

Inviting in is important. You should get Personal with the web searcher. The title is important as well. Currently, the title they use is doing some SEO work but can be more powerful inviting people in.

If you do a search using site:pauljrdesigns.com in Google, you can see your indexed pages and what they look like to "Searchers". Doing so, clearly shows PaulJrDesigns.com needs a lot of work. Currently only 4 indexed pages and all titles and meta descriptions need work.

The site will grow overtime, but it is very important to impress people from the start! Having things ready is important and often times this means hiring the right people for the job. When launching, make sure people can at least find you by typing in your company name and be sure to invite them in with the tools provided!

And you can see the singular pauljrdesign.com is already getting a good amount of traffic. It’s a shame a company that makes such a nice website misses something as important as proper SEO.

paul jr. and mikey, I applaud you guys for doing as good as you do, no matter what you do after senior. i liked you dad on the show as much as you guys. that stuff (the fights) made the show what it was, secondary to the bike building. but then it became just plain verbal abuse which is difficult to watch, especially when you like all the players.you guys need to start your own “ass-kickin” bike building shop. I`m waiting!! good luck with you endeavors til then

Hey Paul Jr, I wish you every success with your new company. I used to follow American choppers every week but i’ve sort of lost intrest ever since you and mikey left. The show is kinda boring without you guys and what the hell does Steve morrow know about building bikes, that was the last show I watched ( the occ band bike ) and I turned the channel half way through. Hi to mikey also

    Paul @ Mikey;
You go guys ! Mikey keep up the artwork. Please do a few with a (BMW) motorcycle theme. I am doing my den up and have yet to find some appropriate artwork, but your technique works well for me, and your prices are correct. Paul, more shirt styles–but reduce the prices…your way high for for sundry items. Price your design work appropriately and you will do fine.

    Paulie, ‘
I like it that you did not jump right into choppers. Enjoyed the OCC shows all along, but those giant ultra heavy long long sleds are going/have already gone the way of the dinasaurs. OCC was comic in that you all bought others parts – cut them up to make wider fenders / buy others frames etc. and cannot go three minutes without saying round bar. Stay a little away from the heavey monster bikes that need S&S motors to even get them moving. Look into Vincati , other replicas types,,, etc. The stoneage chopper look is such a niche market that OCC can supply those folks that have tooooo much money to spend for lead sled bikes. Be Origional and you will suceed. Paul Jr. commands some good respect on the TV, and will also do so in the open market.

We wish you both Mickey & Paul Jr. the best in years to come. It was because of you both that we watched your show. You both brought the entertainment to the show and made it what it was. OCC lost a lot when you two left and it brought it down to the ground. Hope to see nothing but good news for the two of you and hope to see you make mends with Vinnie and Codie and join with them and build the best!!!

It was time the two of you got out on your own and found out what it’s like to make it on your own. When Mikey first showed up at O.C.C. I understood why Sr. had him there but blood only goes so far. Both of you had it way too good for way too long. After all, if the OWNER of the company can make it to work on time, why should a couple of spoiled brats be treated better? You guys should kiss your dad’s ass for what he’s done for you! Look around, you didn’t EARN what you have. Life is way too short and I sincerely hope the family is getting along by now..

    Hey Paul,

I believe you are entitled to express your freedom of expression! Your designs are way ahead of there time….I especially enjoyed your designs and ideas on the “Fantasy” bikes.

As an above knee amputee. I lost my left leg in a bike wreck.(On our Dyna) 10 inches above my knee.
Im lucky to be able to walk at all. With such a short limb. The worst being the loss of my wife of 10 yrs that died instantly..Not to mention the 2 1/2 years it took them to retech me how to walk and talk again. I was so envios of the trike you built! That was friggn hot and ur generosity really overwelmed me..That it brought me to tears…Way to go!
Unfortunately I am not able to ride again,(as much as I would love too) haveing lost everything in the wreck..I’m forced to start over..after 12 yrs(since the wreck) it’s financially impossible. But I did enjoy as did my deased wife of 10 yrs…We did travel the U.S.A. to that point and rode for 10yrs together..However my now wife has never experienced the feeling of the open road. The wind in your hair, the sound (of the pipes) that i call serenity and the peacefulness that over comes you! I hope all goes well for you on your own. I just know big things are comeing your way!!! Good Luck!!!

    Ride Hard!!! Live Well!!

    P.S.

If you ever Deceide to do any fantasy work or Generosity….I would forever be grateful and
would do anything to be able to receive this gift! I have always worked hard for everything I have ever owned! being on disability sucks..and liveing in michigan makes it even worse…!!!!!

Mikey I as many do believe in you and what you do. But the way you were portrayed in the first show was horrible. Your much deeper than
That…Go with your gut! and Paint your Art as you see it!!! You are a talented individual!!
    And dont you forget it!!

    Good Lookn out Paul!!

First, let me say congrats to Paul and Mikey… Also great to see Vinnie on board too. Your old man reminds me soooo much of my own….self-serving egocentric i”m better than anyone can possibly be. I hope you guys kick his ass, he dont know shit about building any thing but “Old School” BORING!!!!! I’m aproduct of the sixties myself, and have a really great design I’d like to share with you guys. My roommate is a n invalid vet in a wheelchair who is also an artist with a couple copyrights and who owns the design we’d like ya to see. Let us know if youre vaguely interested, its a theme bike for sure, but differebt than any you’ve ever done, just a great idea tghat will appeal to a hell of a lot of people accordiong to our informal research so far…Love you guys!!!!

Hey Paul, I just finished watching the new episode of American Chopper, Jr. vs Sr. I have to be honest I have not really watched the show the past year, due to being tired of your dad whining and bitching all the time about deadlines. I f you don’t ut top effort into something, you will not get the top response. I had no idea bout the lawsuit, typical of someone that does not know how much you did for the company. Sometimes people do things out of fear, and the fear is he now knows what you did for his brand and that 20% he owes you, he put it in a pipe and smoke it, that he will lose and much more without you or Vinny. Anyways Paul Jr. Designs is what I am waiting for, and now that your brand will come alive OCC, will now stand for “Oh Crap Crap!

    Sincerely Kris Rice, Denver CO

    Aug 25, 2010

Hi Paul , my name is anthony angelo . And i have a GREAT idea for you and your new company , i think this idea ( product ) will be a huge hitt. I have many friends that travel all around the U.S on motorcycle,s with trailers , But image if they had a full camper pack loaded in a trailer , all supplied by COLEMAN CAMPING GEAR . i have been able to put a full 2 person tent , with an additional tent screened in for eating or just sitting , a picknic table for 2 , a full size off the ground comfortable bed , and aal the little good,ys you need for camping , Plus all powered by a coleman silent 2000 generator , I,m talking lights and all that in a trailer no bigger than 3 ,and a half feet wide and 5 feet long . No bigger than a regular motor cycle trailer and all the camping gear you would need to go anywhere , With your logo on the side and make it a specail edittion jr Design mini motorcycle camper , with coleman campers . I think COLEMAN OUTDOOR WORLD would be behind you a 100 percent also , So not only would they be introduced in the motorcycle industry , they could also be sold at all there Outdoor worlds , plus Gander mountain , and all the other out door stores , and even at places that sell campers .. SO any ways i just thought i would throw it your way , i have already done it and have friends ask me how they can get one or that , they tell me i should open a company and start selling these things , But i dont have the money or the connection,s to do such a thing , you are a big encouragement in my life and the first person i thought about when i wanted to do something with this thing , And plus i think it would be a great time to introduce something new from YOU “” ( and coleman) plus with your new show you could blow your father away with this whole father vs son thing ~!!! I dont think you,ll probably even get this , but if you do my number is 786-402-3638 ..

Paul Jr., My husband and I wish you the very best of luck. It is such a shame your Father does not realize that it was your vision and designs that made OCC such a hit. You and Mikey are his sons and he treated you both with such utter disrespect that it made the old seasons hard to watch. We will be cheering for you and Mikey and know that you will both be a huge success. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Hi Paul,
Sad to see your family divided. Hope your new company takes off. You are a talented person. You kinda remind me of my son John. Anyway the reason that I,m writing you is. Question has their ever been a bike representing the autistic population?? WhyI ask is that I work in yes Boces on the end of Long Island that works with children with special needs. Have been doing it for about 9 years now and luv it. These kids just see diffrently then us. Maybe beter lol. But any way I wonder if Autism Awarness a Organizationthat is well know woulld be interested in bidding one of your bikes off. This would go to all the families with Autistic children. Who better then you and Vinnie to build a bike for our kids. You see I also have two grandkids with this disability. Thanks for your time and good luck in anything that you do.. Victoria.

What do you think about a LEGO theam bike, I think it would be asome and you would be the guy to pull it off. Think of the colors and the fab work, pleas let me know what you thik. I mean all those kids with lego sets who bild things and lego would have a great promo to show off.

I could not bear the thought of not having my children around. I hope and pray that your father comes to his senses before it’s too late. However I caution you not to go back in business with him again. I would sell my stock back to him as soon as possible, before his company goes boom.Congrations on your marriage.

    Hello Paul:
If you ever build another Helicopter bike, Change the crank in the SS Motor to opposed pistons so when it runs it will go BAPA BAPA BAPA BAPA BAPA BAPA…(Like the real thing)…instead of (The standard) Ba Blop,Ba Blop,Ba Blop… This will require a diferent crank shaft and a different iginition but if you tune the pipes you can make it sound just like a real Helicopter… This will blow everyones mind Good for companies like :Bell Helicopters” and really screw with Seiniors HEAADD!!!! good luck, my dad is just like him!
