Domino’s® is kicking off the new year with a whole new pizza from the crust up and is using the domain name PizzaTurnAround.com to help it’s efforts in TV ads and online marketing. I must say that the TV ad spot is very good and very convincing as it really made me want to try there pizza again.

So I visit PizzaTurnAround.com and it actually changed my mind.

Why?

Domino’s, well, really the ad company Crispin Porter & Bogusky they used are likely the ones behind the site created and are allowing comments on the PizzaTurnAround.com articles. Is this a good idea or a bad idea? With anything "food" related item, I don’t think it’s a good idea. Now anytime you read reviews any place, you get a mixed bag. Some like it, some do not but sadly the haters always seem to overpower the lovers!

Well, in my case when I checked out a site that REALLY should be mainly positive on Domino’s part since the President already ripped the company and it’s old pizza in the ad, it wasn’t. At time of posting, 596 comments were placed on this one article from PizzaTurnAround.com (link removed as the article wouldn’t resolve). I didn’t read them all but A LOT were negative!

Like Marcy who stated: "not a fan! I like garlic…this is too much. Couldn’t even finish one slice."

or Steven who posted: "The “new” pizza grease and oil soaked the entire cardboard box and left a puddle of it on my front seat…enough said!"

Alex: "Disgusting…"

These comments clearly made me not all that hungry for Domino’s and really prevented me from trying it!

Now I understand a company wants to be open and honest by allowing it’s customers to be heard but having a large amount of negative comments about the taste of it’s new product is not very good. If I would not of seen the amount of bad comments I did, I would of tried it the next time my wife and I were to order pizza. The last time we had the pizza from Domino’s, we helped somebody move and they ordered Domino’s and it was not good at all! Yes, the cardboard comments in the TV spot were very correct. The pizza had really no taste at all. None, Zippo, Nada! So hearing they were making a change was good news to me.

The TV ad campaign was Very Powerful and convinced me until I visited PizzaTurnAround.com and it made me Turn back Around and not try the pizza after there TV ad did convince me…

The rest of the site appears to be nice. They include a section that shows people tweeting about Domino’s and all tweets that I could see were very Positive.. as they should be for Domino’s sake. They nicely link back to Dominos.com with an Order Now button etc.

CPB Group (the ad company) hand registered PizzaTurnAround.com in mid December with NetworkSolutions.com and also registered the domain DominosOhYesWeDid.com . Oh Yes We Did is the tag line used for the ad, and the extra domain forwards to PizzaTurnAround.com. The site also includes networking to their Facebook page and Twitter page.

I don’t think that I would be the only one to be turned off by all the negative comments on the taste of the new pizza and this time I think adding the extra element of advertising with the site may be hurting them a bit. I think it could be fixed by removing the comment sections from the articles but for me, the damage is already done.

We are in negotiation to sell Pizzas.mobi now and if the domain did not go through we will develop it ourselves at MediaWebPlus.com

The industry is very huge for Pizzas and can reach to 31 billion dollars and is one of the largest for domain names.

PizzaTurnAround.com is not that premium domain name and i expect they have to chance it to be more brandable and forward this ugly domain to the new brand name.

Excellent article Jamie, you make a great point. In this interconnected, social media crazy world, sometime it can be too much and or work against the brand. I did see the commercial and thought maybe to try again, but after reading your post, probably not.

I think they are doing the right thing and also you never know if the people posting are Papa John and Pizza Hut employees. So you never know, information overload.

Paid $ 20.00 for 2 pizzas that were the same quality as I have previously ordered. Inedible as usual. Will ” NOT ” make that mistake again. The people you have in Toccoa, Georgia are not remotely aware of and ingredient, quality, or any othe changes that your company has made. I neither expect you , or the people at the Toccoa, Georgia location to respond to this comment. Your guarantee of money back if not satisfied is as worthless as your food.
    Thanks for nothing

I give no credit to anyone who passes judgement without actually trying and making their own decision. I know this is the information age but as a society it’s the reason we’re going backwards. People blindly following what others say and not thinking for themselves. This article basically says “I was going to try and make my own decision but some other people said some stuff so I’m with them”. That’s nowhere near an informed opinion Where I come from thats called “TALKIN LOUD…AND SAYIN NUTHIN”.. If you were to look at unfiltered reviews for any place in particular you would find the same thing. Nay Sayers tend to make the most noise.

I have been eating Pizza Hut since I can’t remember when..I’ve been many of times that I should try Donino’s but since I am “MAMA” then we eat what I like..I live with 3 men (husband and sons) and they would like to order Domino’s one day instead of PH but I won’t, especially now with all this negative remarks. so if this gets anywhere near the “we want you to try it for free..save it for someone that can be talked into changing her mind..MAMA doesn’t change her mind.
    Thanks
