The expired domain name auction for Pizzerias.com has ended at Godaddy.com Auctions with a final bid price of $20,105 USD after some pretty heavy bidding on a total of 82 bids.
Earlier in 2008 the domain name Pizza.com was auctioned off and reported sold at Sedo.com for $2.6 Million, but that deal later fell through. After the Pizza.com deal fell through, another buyer was in line for the domain name and made the purchase at Sedo.
The exact price for Pizza.com is not known, but was likely in the $1-2 Million dollar range and changed ownership about July 1, 2008 to National A-1 Advertising.
I do like the domain name Pizzerias.com but it does have it’s down sides.
- It’s not the easiest to spell
- Plural term which hurts the domain
- Low search volume for plural term
Is $20,105 the "right" price for the domain name Pizzerias.com? That’s what it sold for, so for the buyer and what they had in mind for buying it, I would have to say yes. With any domain auction that starts with no reserve, it takes two to make the price go up.
The singular term Pizzeria.com is the perfect fit for a pizza restaurant but is currently a domain parking page.
About the best thing that seems to make sense to me with Pizzerias.com is to feature a pizzeria directory on the domain, but I am not sure how profitable or interested customers would be. With the right idea, it very well can work as the domain name makes sense.

Think of all the equipment a Pizzeria needs?
Espressomachine
Special ovens
Coffee Beans
Bar
Kitchen
Italian style interior.
Chairs
and much much more
A good setup for all the equipment will easy pass $ 150- 200K
Pizzerias.com would be perfect for such a supplyment company or distributor.
Just one single lead ending in a contract and setting up one complete Pizzeria would pay for the name.
Also a great name because it is multylingual.
Congrats to the buyer.

@Duane,
Good point. I didn’t look at it from a supplier’s side. That is a Great idea really!

This name went for $10,000 at auction on Sedo in 2008. I can’t find it on DNJournal so maybe it never went through. Anyway, just adding more background.

Thank you for the added info Tony. The domain did change ownership on 6-4-2008 and it appears that owner did not renew it since owning it as the expire date never changed.

The name did sell at http://www.Sedo.com in the end, I think for slightly lower than the original $2.6M, but they did make this a sale!
