We see it almost daily. A company comes out with a brand new product and a catchy name to go along with it… little do they seem to know that naming this product will also lead into A LOT of searches for it on the internet….
Just because a camera is made by a company doesn’t mean people remember the Companies Name. They remember the little "catchy" name they tagged along with the product!
So Polaroid is coming out with another "instant print" style camera but this time it’s more digital and have named it PoGo.

Another company using the CVCV combo, which is always good news for CVCV .com domain investors but the biggest problem is these companies are not Buying the matching domain name to go along with this new product/catchy name. You can read more about the PoGo here from Yahoo! which is set to be launched in March or April.
PoGo.com happens to be a Very Popular game site. Today when I checked on the site, it happens to have 250,000 users online playing games. So I know Polaroid doesn’t own PoGo.com. Now they may have tried to buy it, but if that was the case and they couldn’t strike a deal, a different name would of been wise!
PoGoCamera.com happens to be Available so they clearly didn’t even think of that search term (potential TM issues if you decide to buy it) and I’m sure they never thought about PoGo.com either.
In this case and with many, covering all your bases is the best. The actual product name is the Most Important. PoGo.com . Secondly, PoGoCamera.com and even combinations like PolaroidPogoCamera.com PolaroidPogo.com etc.
This not alone will help you in search engine rankings, but also covering your brand/product and will prevent you from losing that very important Direct Navigation. Heck, it makes marketing a hell of a lot easier as well. Telling people to go to the exact term of your product is Pure Power in itself. Secondly, people are getting smarter and smarter daily and instead of searching for something they already know via Search Engines, they simply type directly into their browser the search term and add .com to it!
Just because a company is BIG, doesn’t mean they are Smart or that they do Smart Things! So Polaroid or Marketing companies who get paid to name products or any big company for that matter that wants to come out with a product and a name, Call me!

This is unbelievable…millions of dollars on advertising and marketing, and they still don’t get it.

Pogo has been around a while and I’m sure they make enough to be able to confidently refuse any offers Polaroid has or will make.
But, do you think they actually weighed their options and simply went with Pogo because they felt a catchy and easy to remember name was more important than calling it something inferior (like Polgo, since I’m assuming “Pogo” stands for Polaroid Go) and securing the .com?
Or do you think they were completely oblivious to the fact that not only is the .com taken, but it’s owned by a popular site that will not want to give it up?

I personally see the name fitting to the company and the product but I think they never even thought about the domain, nor looked into it. Since that didn’t happen, they wouldn’t of thought of naming it something else unless there were potential TM issues. Since PogoCamera.com is/was still available, that is pure proof of that. Not that I haven’t seen these “names” change when it’s really launched, but since it’s already has press with the name PoGo, that name sticks in consumers heads.
Do I think they could of came up with another catchy name and purchased that matching domain? Yes
RegFeeNames.com
This doesnt come as a surprise another large company with no understanding of owing or leasing a domain name that matches there products.

Guess what someone as registered pogocamera.com and put privacy protect on the whois.
This really angers me. . . WHY did someone we can only assume that has read this blog went and registered this domain.

I bet they plan on using something like pogo.polaroid.com. Cheap and Easy
**Jamie Says**
Very likely but they would be better going to the Right of the domain with it. Polaroid Pogo is already the most popular search…
