Many people that work "online" fully depend on there computers and also just as important, the internet connection we all expect to work.

My problems started yesterday with things "doubling up" in my WordPress backend. This made me think I had an issue of some sort, but I was putting it to my "website". I contacted a great developer that knows a ton and he said it looked like my CSS wasn’t fully loading.

Cleared cache and all that, with rebooting to boot and it was all better!

Later in the morning today, a new problem. I was getting errors via email that my Outlook Express wasn’t connecting to only a couple of my email services I use. They all happened to be with HostGator.

I also noticed that several of my sites on this specific HostGator account were not fully loading, would not load at all or would get a network timeout error. Hmmm Must be an issue with my host server.

I spent nearly 2 hours via live chat with HostGator with them trying everything in the book. In the end, they were thinking it was my ISP, as they could access the things I couldn’t. In the mean time, 95% of the sites I visited, worked perfectly normal so it was just odd.

I also could not connect to my FTP client, so this all needed to be fixed ASAP… so on the phone with my ISP now as I was getting pretty ticked at this point. This phone call took up another good 1 hour.

My call with my ISP revealed my Wireless Router was taking a crap. By simply unplugging my main internet cable from my wireless router and plugging it directly into my PC, all things worked perfect.

Long story short.. 7 hours of my day was spent figuring out the issue, going to purchase a new one, removing the old software and then setting everything back up on the wireless network.  Not only most of my day wasted, another $100 bill  and now I am on my 3rd wireless router in about 3.5 years.

Be sure to have backups to your "online business" and know your system as well as you can. The "knowing your system" is where I was lacking the most.  I didn’t even think the problems I was having had anything to do with my wireless router but I will know for the next time. I thought having 3 computers was a good backup! :)

I know how you feel. I had to purchase a new router recently for the same thing. I missed out on a few good domains during this time also.
