Bido.com domain auction service has A Lot going for it! They had issues with some technology but took the site down and fixed them. Since relaunching late last week with EquityGrant.com selling for $810, BarPictures.com for $100 and with today’s auction of FixedLoans.com ending for $5,449 shows that the system is working.
Now FixedLoans.com was purchased in 2006 for $10,000 but that buyer simply could of overpaid for the domain then IMO. It could be due to the state of the economy currently in 2009 for the 2006 owner losing out on their investment but I do not put anything against the sales price on Bido!
If you are looking for past sales on Bido.com you can view those here.
The auction system is Very Easy to use and I enjoy the live chat feature that any registered user can use during the auction. Submitting domain names for auction is easy and the fee’s are low as well at 8% of the sales price. Bido also offers up Expert Reviews, lates news to the specific domain at auction and a scorecard which shows such things as DMOZ listing (Y/N) Yahoo! Directory, Archive.org, Compete.com and inbound links.
No sniping is allowed during the domain auction, as the auction clock resets to 5 minutes with any last minute bids, which I like for the owner of the domain and the auction platform itself.
With the One A Day auctions, Monday-Friday each domain name for sale get’s plenty of time in the spot light, to much really
.
So what are some things that I would suggest to make Bido.com a little more exciting?
~ Without taking away from the "focus" the domain names get per day, I think more domains need to be auctioned off per day and at a little quicker speed. I would say 4 domains per day. 4, Five Minute auctions with the snipe clock resetting to 1 minute. This should keep most auctions in a 10-15 minute frame with some running over but all the auctions should be done before the drop auctions start at 1 PM CT.
This will create More Bidding and much faster since all domains will start at $1. This would create one really fun hour that is Exciting! Currently, the bidding hour is not all that exciting.
~ Domain Quality needs some improving. It’s hard to make money on 8% commission, but it makes it all that much harder when $100 domains are listed. I know Bido does not hold that much control over what is submitted, but I know the owners of bido also hold a good deal of domains and I know many will take a risk with some quality domains as they have in the past. They can do this as filler’s when the submitted domains are light.
Submissions should be picking up now that the site is relaunched and proven to be working, so this should also improve quality.
~ Domain Stats. I would like to see more things on the bido page like Domain Age, Registrar, extensions taken. I know I can look for this stuff, but it can also be placed in one spot for the auction as well.
~ Experts help pick at least One Domain per day via a voting system. Keeping the expert approval process tight, this would work well.
~ Email notifications. If you are a bidder and you get outbid, you will get A Lot of email notifications of any New Bids placed if the bidding is heavy. I got 16 "New Bid" emails and 1 auction closed email from Bido today after placing an early bid in the auction which was a bit much. Shorter auctions, should prevent this and a small tweak to the software..
~ Domains Submitted page. If you submit domain names for sale, no page is attached to your account show what is or is not accepted. It would be nice to see what you have submitted and if your domain get’s a yes or no without assuming. You do get an email with the domains you submit and Bido contacts you if a domain is approved, but this process needs some improving.
I really like what Bido brings to the table! Let’s face it…. current domain auctions are mainly very boring, slow and A Lot of domains all in one auction that make your head spin. Keeping the amount of domains offered per day lower will allow them to still keep the spot light on the auctions for the day, but the quicker pace is needed to make it a bit more exciting.
The No Reserve starting price allows the chance for everybody to bid and also creates a fun and interesting market place to be at! Fast bidding, lots of action, live chat, stats all would add up to the excitment of the auction at Bido and keep people coming back for more every day.

Jamie,
The only problem with Bido is why would anyone with valuable domains list there when they know they could make a much heftier amount by waiting for the proper end user. I can see a bunch of mid $x,xxx and below sales but not much more than that.
