It has been a rough and tough couple months for a lot, if not most businesses. At first, it didn’t seem to affect the domain industry all that hard.
Well, I think most of 2009 HAS and it has been a bit up and down all year so far. Sell a couple domains here and there. Find some deals here and there and so on, but a lot of dead time.
Dead time can be good and bad. It just depends how you spend the dead time!
A lot of people use dead time to watch TV, go fuck around with friends, mope, piss and moan and those kinds of things.
Starting this past Monday I have dedicated more time to what I use to do all the time and that included nearly full focus on buying great domain names at great deals! I do not have the money of the big dogs in the domain industry do, so I have always felt like I have to work double as hard, but making the "double" part being Smarter!
Results are slowly showing again as I have been picking up some nice domain names at fair prices that I can easily turn around and sell if I need or choose to for a nice profit. I have been thinking it has to be a great time to buy, but if you do not have a ton of cash on hand, that get’s hard to do.
So again, it goes back to being smarter. Thinking outside the box! Trying new things and doing the best you can with what you have!
I could sit around and piss and moan all day but that takes time and energy! That same time and energy can be put into finding great domains at great prices you can afford to purchase no matter what your budget is.
You may see a couple less posts here at DotWeekly in the coming weeks, but I will still be around working in the background. Heck, maybe with all the hard work I am putting in, I may have MORE to write about…
we will see.
Happy domaining and keep thinking outside the box!

Jamie, that’s great to hear things are improving for you
Completely agree with you about dead time — whether you’re domaining, developing domains, updating your blog,… So many better things to do than just sit around watching 4 hours of television like your average American does.

There sure are some very sweet old domains dropping just now
Happy Hunting !

Do like I did and get rid of TV totally.
I did that 10 years ago….best move ever.

Totally agree mate, no time like the present to focus and excel.
Gazzup: Are you referring to specific niches as I dont see any quality(v.good) domains dropping. Do you mean being offered on the secondary market(pool, snap, namejet, etc.)?
Cheers,
IrishDomainer

@Johnny,
I couldn’t give up my big screen or my DVR totally, but cutting back is a good thing
