Have you even been given Infraction Points?

Daily over at DnForum.com I see threads closed for stupid reasons IMO. Like if a post is listed in wrong section.. Closed. Why not help out and just move the Fn’ thing to the correct one? Many are closed because they do not include the domain in the Title or it was misleading and I understand that.

Members get Banned often. I do not have the details on these, but I see Banned members a good deal of the time. People that have been around for a long time as well.

Keep in mind, DnFourm is a Membership site. $25 to be a Gold Member, I think it’s $50 to be a Platinum Member and $340 for an Exclusive membership. NamePros.com and DomainState.com are free btw.

I paid the Platinum Membership and have always liked DNF, besides how mods treat things from time to time. Trust me, some mods are much better and willing to work with a member then others.

Anyway, onto my rant… I listed a story in the Domain News section at DNF. I was talking about the new Google Insights tool. I talked a little bit about the tool and provided a link here to my blog if people were interested in reading more what I wrote about it. (remember this is the news section). I also was sure to include the link to Google Insights. So all in all, people did Not have to visit my site, unless they wanted to read more more what I wrote abou it.

Shortly after posting, a mod sent me a Warning for Self Promoting my site.  If I did it again, I would have infraction points Added or Taken away.. whatever one it was. Whatever, I was providing News. My site happens to provide news as well. I was not trying to self promote my blog, I was simply offering to the readers that were more interested, they could read what I all wrote in my blog post… Not a biggy if you ask me but the link was removed. In a way I get it and in another, my same post at NamePros.com was never touched and has been getting a lot of interest.

The thread is getting pretty good attention at DNF as well and most like the tool. In a reply today, I provided a Screen Shot of the tool via a link so people could see how the process worked if the liked…. Shortly after posting, I got an infraction via PM! WHAT? Infraction for what? Self promoting my site was the answer! WTF!! Come on?

My reply was… You have to be kidding me! I am getting an infraction because I posted a link to a stand alone Screen Shot! I had uploaded the screen shot to DotWeekly’s servers, so it did have dotweekly in the url, but how is having a Screen Shot of Google’s Insights promoting MY SITE? The link doesn’t even Go to my site! Look for yourself. http://www.dotweekly.com/wp-content/uploads/insight.png When you visit the link, all you see is a Screen Shot. You do not see my site at ALL. No logos, Nothing.. All it did for me providing the link, was chew up bandwith.

Since a picture needs to be hosted on a server to be shown to the world, I don’t know what else I could of done… I guess I could of used some photo site or whatever, but why. I pay for my servers, I have a system in place that make uploading easy!

DnForum.com and the Mod made the wrong call IMO! A.) removing a link that provided Relevent Information to the post/tool. I had to upload the picture someplace, so of course it would have been on my domain name. Big deal, the link showed the screen shot and NOTHING else. B.) Giving me infraction point for providing useful, helpful, relevent info is BS!

I’m one of the many victims of the “wrong forum = closed” idea. They have way too many forums and subforms, if you ask me. To their credit, it helps me find things easier, but when I’m posting a new message I’m terribly thrown off. I only use DNF for sales… I find other forums more suitable for actual discussion, as I feel afraid to post at DNF with fear that I’m breaking some rule. Just my honest opinions…

This is why I now very rarely post.

You are correct… Now what can we do with all the “gray” areas.. lol I will just stay away.

What I’ve seen some people do successfully is this:
    1. Post the information in the promotions section, linking to your blog.
    2. Post in the news section, and instead of referring back to your blog, refer back to the DNF post in the promotions section.
Pretty much the same thing, but this should comply with their rules.

I will just stay away from the forum. Doesn’t bother me any ;)

DNForum needs to kick that douchebag MediaHound to the curb. DNForum has gone seriously downhill since his “reign of power” there.

    **Jamie Says**
I think their are about 3 good mods their, the rest let the “power” go to their heads. Why not Help instead of just closing a thread… NamePros.com is helpful. Their mods will simply Move a thread that is in a wrong place and Help by informing the poster of the proper place for the next time. That helps readers and posters.

Jamie, don’t let this little incident make you leave dnf. Everyone gets some infractions or into disputes at some point.. adapt, move on.

    **Jamie Says**
Thank you Michael. I will do the last part ;) Move on! It’s upsetting when you “help” and get slapped on the ass for doing it. I have better things to do anyway.

I totally agree Jamie, in the first few weeks of joining I got an “infraction” for letting someone know that a very similar domain to his just sold at snapnames for xx,xxx that night…it was in his favour to know.

Its pretty hard to communicate when big brother is watching your every word.

If you were to read EVERY rule there you’d never find the time to post anything !

    Jamie,

A thread at NamePros wasn’t closed.

It just simply disappeared without notice or explanation.

It wasn’t my thread but I did participate.

The thread was called “Papa John’s says NO to .Mobi”.

It makes me wonder if it was a .mobi proponent who 86ed the thread.

Removing a thread without explanation I feel is disrespectful to those who have participated.

If a thread has to be closed or removed at least say why.

    Patrick
