Register.com has a partnership with the expired domain auction service SnapNames.com in which expired domain names that are registered with Register.com are auctioned at SnapNames.com.
Up until recently, the minimum starting price on all Register.com domains listed on SnapNames were $99 for "Available Soon" domains. The new starting bid price is $119 USD, which is a $20 increase. "In Auction" domain names that are registered with Register.com are also starting at $119 with a $10 bid increase.
"Available Soon" simply means the domain auction has not started yet, and will take place shortly, unless the expired domain is renewed by it’s old owner.
"In Auction" simply means the 3 day auction has started and bidding is open on the expired domain name.
Currently, 3,947 expired Register.com domain names are listed on SnapNames.com with 43 that have at least one (1) bid. That is a mix of "In Auction" and "Available Soon" domain auctions.
A couple examples of Expired Register.com domain names that will be in auction shortly, with a minimum starting bid price of $119 with No Up-Front fee unless you win are: HomeCredit.com, OldFavorites.com , Ownx.com, Obby.com and NewGun.com.
SnapNames.com has patnerships with several major domain name registrars. Each registrar sets it’s starting bid price but all auctions are No Up-Front fees unless you win. Here are some major partnerships and the starting bid price for each registrar: Moniker.com ($79), Dotster.com ($79), Stargate.com ($59), DomainSite.com ($59), MelbourneIT.com ($79), Directi.com ($59) and Name.com ($59).

They don’t even have so many quality names dropping to begin with… Jeez, if anything — they should of went down to $59 in order to sell more names.
But no.. Now they are charging 2x ??
Register.com big time idiots. They just don’t get it.
Wow is all I gotta say.

I was a bit shocked to see the price increase as well. It could backfire on them really. Less backorders, some that would of been backorderd will not etc. I had a hard time coming up with the 5 I listed not to bore people, but they do have some nice ones from time to time

I scan their lists almost daily and this definitely will backfire.
It will get reversed sooner than later.. Will probably take a few weeks for them to figure this out though.

They’d probably have waaaaay more backorders if they put them all back down to $39 and did’nt show how many people had it backordered.
Those two moves will be costing them a fortune IMO

I would also like to see the amount Lowered kind of like Godaddy! $10 to start no matter what domain it is….
