Happy Saturday to you all!
Here is a little domain microblogging from me to you. Just some things that I am thinking. So, take a drink of your coffee, a puff on your smoke and enjoy!
~ I had read this the other day but the more I think about it.. it’s so true! "Don’t turn your domain name into a license plate".
How often do we see a decent site on a crappy domain name! GR8LUV
Keep in mind the internet is all about Keywords! GreatLove.com will be found and remembered 1 zillion times more and faster then GR8LUV.com! Take the "Guessing" out of the question and make your domain name as clear as a bell!
~ Is it just me or does sometimes just seeing a domain name spark an idea in your head that can turn into a money making machine and actually Work! The internet is such a powerful tool, it’s simply amazing and it all starts with a domain name. I was thinking yesterday… If I wanted a bunch of people to see something a couple years ago, I would of had to put an ad in the newspaper, wait for it to go to print and wait for the phone to ring. Now I just jump on my site, write what I want to display and let it spread the web. It can be seen by thousands nearly instantly with easy contact and sales without me having to answer a phone or swipe a credit card. How sweet is that!
~ I have noticed that Godaddy.com auction quality has dropped off big time. Notice the same thing? I’m not sure if this is a sign that people are renewing domains more or what the deal is. It could simply be a "cycle" but the quality is down.
~ Did you noticed the SnapNames.com HotList I have been displaying in the blue bar? I update it almost daily, so I hope a nice gem is displayed and catches your eye that you may have missed. Yes, I will make a couple pennies if you click on a domain and happen to win it but again this doesn’t affect you in anyway.
~ I pointed out an error on SnapNames to Snap that delt with Dotster domains (all Dotster, including reseller domains). This error potentially could of cost them six figures or more a year at least. Who knows how much they lost because of it already… I wonder if I will get a Thank You or a THANK YOU! LOL Bascially, partner domains were being listed as partner domains, getting bids, but then not going to auction as a "partner domain auction". Not a huge deal, but it still is an error and not right. So what’s the big deal?
Many domains would go Pending Delete, get grabbed by Snap and then go to auction. The big kicker.. as you know when a domain goes PD, Anybody can grab it when it drops and yes, SnapNames has not been grabbing "all" domains this error was happening to. I’m sure you can see why this was a big deal. Just one gem dropping that should of been a partner domain, but because of the error goes PendingDelete and is grabbed by somebody else can lead into a loss of $xxx, xxx on one single domain! Take the chance with several hundred domains per month.. it’s a big deal!
~ I am running a test on one of my domains. HandTrowel.com . I wrote a simple "note" on the site why I think a company that sell’s them needs the domain. Sometimes all it takes is planting the seed and that is hard to do on a domain parking page, Sedo listing page etc. It took me about 20 minutes to do and I am also going to send out about 15-20 emails to Hand Trowel manufatures with a link to HandTrowel.com . The next site I do like this is going to be all pictures, with text on the pic’s so it is more appealing, but it’s all about testing. Some might rather read, but I think pictures with text will be more eye catching.

Regarding the Godaddy drops, I agree. The quality has dropped off dramatically. I guess that’s why when a rare premium shows up, I’m all over it. There are decent domains that can be had for $10+regfee and good ones for $100-500 every week but the top tier stuff like Masochist.com is rarer now for sure.

Since GoDaddy supposedly stopped sending the better expired domains (those with traffic) to their
Standard Tactics division and let them go thru the TDNAM process, you would think domain quality would have improved.
I wonder what’s up.

I love your handtrowel.com idea. I have been meaning to do something similar. At first I was surprised to see the $250 price tag. It seemed low. But now that I think about it, that seems about right. I wonder how much more you would have asked for handtrowels or a combo of both. Would love to see the letter that goes out to the manufacturers as well. I agree, the picture makes a big difference. I remember when Frank S. was blogging, how vivid an impression he made on me when he pointed out how powerful the right domain name on the side of a van can be.
