Sedo.com has sold the 3 number domain name 222.com for $49,000 USD . According to whois history records, the web hosting communications company Blue Gravity was the past owner and the new owner is Lei Shengqiang.
Is $49,000 high, low or about average?
3Character.com states the current minimum wholesale value of 3 number .com domains are currently $7,650, but this sale was also not sold at a "wholesale market".
Secondly, 222.com is not just any old 3 number domain.
According to NameBio.com, they report 4 other NNN .com domain sales in 2009. All of those are 5 figures.
- 434.com $18,500 (Sedo)
- 414.com $11,480 (Disemails)
- 659.com $10,600 (Sedo)
- 401.com $65,100 (NameJet)
Since every domain name sold any day are all unique, 222 is as unique as any and all of the above due to the triple repeat of the number 2. 401 holds a general meaning known by many and would explain the 65K price.
NameBio shows only 1 reported 3 number repeating domain sale since it started tracking and that is 444.com which sold for $178,889 (Marchex) 2008.
As always, you can checkout the weekly reported domain name sales on DnJournal.com by Ron Jackson as well which lists several services like Sedo, NameJet Afternic/BuyDomains, Snapnames, Private sales and many more.
Sedo.com has clearly been the hottest domain name sales marketplace as of late.

I assume the buyer is Chinese.
I just sold a domain to a fellow in Singapore that is going to make the charts in a fairly big way in the next couple of weeks or so.
Maybe the East is waking up to domain assets, or maybe they’ve been buying and I just did not know.

That’s a modest sales price for the domain 222.com, not very good IMO.
