If you were not aware that SnapNames.com allows it’s customers to offer domain names for sale on it’s site, you know now. I have decided to offer several domains for sale and see how the process works. So here is what I have found out so far in the listing process.
The sign up process for me went pretty well. I contacted SnapNames and got a reply from Jonathan who manges portfolio sales for SnapNames. You will have to provide a little info to him (SnapNames user ID, Full Name, Address etc). He will then create a Sellers Account for you at SnapNames. Once you have an account set up, the next process will be to choose which domains you would like to submit. You can vist HERE to sign up if you wish to sell some domains at SnapNames.com
Submitting
If your domain name(s) are not with the registrars Moniker.com or uDomainName.com you will have to transfer your domain to one of them. They also require that your domain name has atleast 6 months of registration left on the domain. Once you have that, you can log into your SnapNames.com account. Click on My Account/Seller Dashboards. Once at the page, you have 5 options. Account Overview, Names Scheduled For Auction, Active Auctions, Auction History or Fininacial History. Under the Account Overview, just click the Contact Us link which will show the email address portfoliosales@snapnames.com or the phone number 1-866-599-6121 (toll-free). You can also submit online Here. If you have a Moniker Rep, you can also submit your domain names to them. You will want to submit your domains the following way.
DomainName.com, $xx, Auction End Date
The $xx is the Reserve Amount for the domain name and will also be the starting price for your domain listing. Most of the domain names that I listed, I started very LOW. Like $99 low. Now this is a risk, but you will also increase your amount of bidders in the auction. Crazy things can happen in auction if you get atleast 2 people that really want the domain. So the more bidders the BETTER. You can also check out the FAQ section for more Q&A’s.
Pros:
- SnapNames.com has a very large customer base!
- The auction system is near perfect!
- The process of submitting and getting the domains into auction is pretty easy.
- SnapNames sells on average of about 1,000 domain names Per Day.
- Good customer support.
- You get your payment within 7 days and have several options to get it.
- You have a choice of how long your domain(s) will be listed in the auction. The average is 7-14 days.
- Very clear and super cool control panel to see just about any "status" of your auction/sales/payment.
Cons:
- 20% commission.
- You can not "add info" about your domain name, so you have to let people figure it out. It would be nice if you could put a little info with your domain if you choose. Traffic stats, domain age etc.
- The "Search" feature is lacking power and only really provides very basic features.
- Amount of domains for sale any given day is Huge, which means your domain could "get lost in the mix".
- No option to direct link to your domains on the site, so you could help promote directly to your listings. You will have to direct people to the Search Feature to find your domains.
- 3 domains I listed, didn’t make it to auction. My rep said it was a whois issue and they will recheck and see if everything is ok soon. I checked whois after he told me this and everything looked exactly the same to all the other domains there were Accepted.
Now I wish I could say after you have listed your domain name(s) for sale at SnapNames you can just sit back and watch the bidding happen, but it is still vital that you promote your domain name(s) you have up for auction. Again, this would be MUCH easier if you could provide a direct link to your specific domains you have listed, but still getting the word out that you have X domain listed on SnapNames.com will help! Most people will just use the search feature SnapNames provides to find your domain(s). If you would like to see the domain names that I submitted, you visit the For Sale page on DotWeekly. I provided a little more info for each domain. I left out the prices, since they change with bidding, but again, most are listed for $99. You can also Click Here to see the For Sale page.

Thank you for your interest. Both stated domains are Top Notch 3 letter .org’s and I just wanted to see how listing them at about what I think they are worth would do. I did list most at $99 and some a little higher, but for the most part, all are listed very fairly. Some of my auction already have 15 bidders so I guess some are great deals. Best of luck if you decide to bid.

Good info Jamie, just what I was looking for
Don’t commissions changed based on the selling price?
**Jamie Says**
Glad I could be of some help Michael. From what I see, it’s a flat 20% no matter what. I’m sure if you were going to be listing a 5 of 6 figure domain, you could work something out with them.
