I have hand registered some great domains over the years. Many of them I got threw my process I have presented with Redrops.com .
There is also a new service out from the people that created the DRT tool. The service is Free and is a great resource. www.TasteReports.com It is newer and not a lot of people know about it, so there are some nice gems to be found. There is also many nice features, like exporting in CSV and so on.
When exporting, you can also take the list of domain names and input that list into my free tool LazyMate.com which will help you find exactly what you want. Remember lists approx 20K or less work the best.
You will want to search under the New Deletions section for available domain names on TasteReports.com. Remember, It is always wise to use a Live Whois domain availability checker like Moniker.com as many of these domain name have just become available. Play around with the dates etc and you can find some nice ones.

However i am still surprised you have not yet cmmented on the domaintools – Register alert tool(The new one still in Beta) that they have just launched.

I will look more into it. DomainTools.com does some shady things and many people do not like the tools they provide. I like and dislike many myself. I will post more about it soon.
