Who hasn’t had at least one thumb war in their days! Well, DoSomething.org has taken on a new fashion for thumb wars and is going after the danger of texting while driving and is using the domain name ThumbWars.org in TV ads to further continue their message online.
Did you know that texting while driving makes it 4 times more likely to crash? I admit, I have texted and drove at the same time and it is a bit scary how much more attention you pay to your phone than the road.
Here is the Thumb Wars TV Commercial promoting ThumbWars.org
Ohhh I need some of those Thumb Socks!
No, thumb socks will not prevent you from texting and driving but the idea is for you to take notice that when your thumbs are having a mini war with your keyboard on your phone, danger is lurking as your cruising down the street with your eyes on your phone and not the road!
ThumbWars.org does a simple 301 redirect to DoSomething.org and a special page was created for the campaign. ThumbWars.org was registered on March 4, 2010 by DoSomething.org. The domain name had been registered in the past as it had 14 IP address changes over a 5 year period. Whois history only shows 1 record in 2007 but it was at least registered before in 2005.
Nice use of a domain name in advertising as it uses a term many are familiar and it gets a message across to something that I do see as a big problem!

Hi,this org has taking the pledge of no texting and driving my husband and I have developed a cell phone application that is available for purchase called Auto Text Reply and what this application does is automatically replys to a text message just like out of office reply would, so you don’t even have to pick your phone up if someone texts you while driving, in a meeting, or you are busy. The application logo is a picture of an automobile with an angel flying over it. The default text message states “Auto Text Reply take the pledge don’t text and drive. I’m busy will call you back later. Thanks” We would very much love for you to make this known.
Thank you,
Best Regards,
Omar and Kathy Coote
