When I see a cool online tool, I like to let you know about it and TinyChat.com is a cool tool! Yesterday, Adam Strong of DomainNameNews.com and Andrew of DomainNameWire.com hosted a live chat during the Moniker auction at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. with TinyChat embedded directly on DNN.com .
TinyChat.com offers web cam chat, which allows you to talk to each other (web cam to web cam) with video and audio. Below the video feeds is a live chat text box area that everybody else who may be in the chat room using the live chat can see and hear the video feeds and chat in the live chat box all at the same time.
During yesterdays chat, there was mainly 3 video feeds and over 60 others in the chatroom. The 3 video feeds included Chef Patrick who was on the floor of the event in New York, Andrew of DNW who was in his office and Adam of DNN in his home office.
Each video stream provided interesting topics. When chef turned on his mic, you could follow the auction live. He even picked up his laptop and walked around the auction room so people could see what was happening, stopped and visited with Ron Jackson of DnJournal.com for a couple seconds and did a live mini interview all while everybody in the chat could see and hear.
Adam and Andrew were giving a play by play of the auction, the domain names, prices and other data about the specific domain names that were currently up at auction. People in the chat room would ask Adam and Andrew questions and get answers seeing the expressions on their faces!
The others in the chat added in via simple text in the text box below the video boxes on top. Some good topics were brought up and many discussions. Monte from Moniker was in the chat an several other big name guys and gals! In fact, just about as many people were in the chat, that were using the Snapnames live bidding software. There was about 80 or so using the bidding software.
To say the least, TinyChat.com is a sweet tool. You can even use it for FREE! Adam said he pays for the PRO version, which he thought was about $15 a month. The PRO version allows the user more control of who can go live with video and I’m sure you can ban people from the chat etc.
TinyChat has a ton of potential as it can be used for meetings, simple chat between two people, hold a domainers meet up and so much more! Somebody could even just use TinyChat on their website if they wanted to hold a Q&A with a guest. You can even record!
Checkout TinyChat.com, it is a sweet tool and thank you again to Adam and Andrew for hosting the event yesterday.

I wonder if there ends up being an archive of the whole thing, because, with all due respect, Andrew and Adam, and Chef Patrick actually, were definitely not approaching it from the perspective of being entertaining and engaging. I only mention it because they actually have the basis for what could be an awesome ‘show’. They certainly know the market. Insights into individual domain names- who owned them before, and what they sold for. That’s interesting! Perhaps they were more involved with actually bidding and certainly that must by distracting. Can I recommend a webcast video show to check out as a model for how these things can go simply and effectively- thisweekinstartups.com with Jason Calacanis. Very entertaining, informative- but really not a whole lot of more production value than Adam and Andrew brought to the table. Guys- you’re on to something. We need live auction coverage. A little bit of planning could turn your show into something very compelling-could be very good for the industry. But please, let’s get a feed of the auction in there next time as well!
