Here are a couple interesting things on my mind over here at Dotweekly.com!

~ Mark from DotSauce.com pointed out a Broken Link Checker for Wordpress that I installed and used. I had several hundred bad links, but since I started DotWeekly I have not went back in to the archives to see what was working and what was not. There were 3 main sources that links did not resolve.

Yahoo.com stories that I talked about and linked back to. It seems that Yahoo "expires" stories after a period of time. Why they would just ditch this content I’m not sure, but it appears they do. These were stories that were directly on Yahoo. If you happen to have links on your site that went to past Yahoo stories you linked to, you might want to double check them.

SnapNames.com I had linked to a good deal of auctions on SnapNames since I started my site. Since you can really place a backorder for any domain name at Snap, a link to a domain should still resolve. It appears that Snap changed it’s link structure at some point so many did not resolve any longer.

Whois.sc works the same as SnapNames and the page resolves no matter if the domain is owned by somebody or not. I think the problem with the link checker is it was checking the domain I was talking about at the end of the url. whois.domaintool.com/domainhere.com . I added the term domaintools to exclude in link checking and the tool no longer checks those links.

The plugin is free and I think worth a try if you have a good deal of outbound links on your site.

Seo.com business sign

It features the SEO.com team in front of their business. Pretty cool to see a "dot com" company with it’s full domain as it’s brick and mortar sign!

~ Speaking of SEO, URL editing. One thing I have been noticing for SEO when I write my titles via Wordpress (this becomes the url) is that if I include a domain name with TLD in the heading, it smashes the terms together basically removing the period. If I go back and edit the URL before posting and add a hyphen before the TLD, it seems to help the posting rank better in SE’s for those who search the full domain (many do).

Bad ~ dotweekly.com/domainnames-at-snapnamescom

Good ~ dotweekly.com/domain-names-at-snapnames-com

For the best optimized URL, it’s best to put a hyphen between keywords how people naturally search. Keep in mind that search engines see ( – . ‘) Hyphen, Period and Apostrophe) all as a "space". That means when somebody types snapnames.com into a search engine, they see the search as a Space between the domain and TLD.

You will notice I rank on P1 for the term snapnames.com on Google.com with this mornings post that I wrote about their August Showcase Domain Auction. If I did not include the hyphen by the term snapnames-com in the URL, I would not.

Wordpress SEO Link Optimization

This is a VERY helpful SEO tip,so I hope it helps you. It’s something that many people miss.
