The domain name NEWisconsinBPG.com was the ugliest domain name that I have seen today while watching a little TV. The domain name happens to be for a local auto dealership. That is not the end of the story, so keep on reading!
So what is the "meaning" behind this domain name that is really wasting space in the TV ad?
Northeast Wisconsin Buick Pontiac GMC Dealer
Well, I guess they decided to leave off the D in the domain name but described everything else in the "name".
So to top it off, even if you happen to remember the ugly acronym, word, triple single letter domain name combo they decided to use… when you visit the domain name, you land on a Godaddy Parking Page!
Keep spending those Ad dollars wisely!
Now at first, I thought I mistyped the domain due to it being not the easiest to remember! Nope.
It appears the advertising company this auto dealership used for the ad / domain, let the domain name expire August 5, 2009. The ad company is Martin Advertising according to Whois records.
So now these ads are being run on TV with a domain name they no longer even own and the domain name doesn’t even resolve to the business they are advertising.
CLASSIC!
So why is this domain name "ugly" and not the best choice to use in advertising?
- Confusing
- Long
- Doesn’t Make Sense
- Combining acronyms and words together
- Not memoriable
- No trust
A better example for this company to use so people actually visit the domain name / website?
- AutoDealer.com
- YourDealer.com
- Dealership.com
- LocalDealer.com
- MyDealership.com
Now the next thing you do, is fire MartinAdvertising.com Right Away for letting the domain name expire. To prevent this, make sure You Own the domain name directly and keep control over it!
If you need assistance in what a "good" domain name is, I suggest you speak with a domain name consultant or you can always ask me.

I think, the owner should fire his marketing manager as well for not even checking out the ad. If he had seen the ad., he would have checked out the website.
And they wonder why GM is bankrupt!

I emailed the marketing company and got the following reply: “Thanks for the heads up. We will work to fix this issue.” This clearly tells me they were not aware of it and “fixing” the issue is not going to be easy getting the domain back. It likely sold at auction on Godaddy after it expired.
