I remember awhile back SnapNames.com had clearly stated times on it’s site when domain names needed to be backordered. The last time I checked I was unable to find the time. DotWeekly.com reader Erhan asked the following question:
When do you think is the best time to backorder a domain name with snapnames? In other words, when is the latest time to order so that you minimize the number of eyes on it?
Here is a base line to go off of as answered directly from SnapNames.
Drop names (Pending Delete) have to be ordered by 10:40am Pacific, 1:40 pm Eastern the day of the drop. Unless there is already another order for it, then you have until the auction starts (Noon Pacific, 3 pm Eastern)
Seller names (In Auction) are available through the auction end date and time.
"There are circumstances where an auction could begin at any time of the day."
So to have the Least Amount of eyes on any domain, I would place my order just before the times stated above. Domain names that have orders placed, I would wait until the last minutes because the higher the number of bidders, the higher it goes up the list and says look at me, I am good!

Hey,
thanks for writing this.Informative.I havent commented in a long time although I do read your blog.
I was wondering if you were ever faced with this situation …
Consider making a offer on a domain via whois email adress. After an hour or so you get a mail from the registrar of the domain saying “the domain has been suspended and that if you are the owner of the domain please update your info.”
Well i am not the owner but since the info on the whois was wrong it says that the domain will be deleted if the contact info is not updated in 15 days. 15 days pass and no one updates the info ?
What then….Is it best to backorder such a name via snapnames or pool..Or what do you do in order to acquire the name and dont wanna spend big bucks on it…

That does sound odd! Since you hold interest in the domain, I would just place a backorder as that will be your Safest and best chance to get the domain. Best of luck!
