Make Money on Your Domains with GoDaddy.com 468x60

A pretty famous saying is: "Build it and they will come". Is this true with website building? Well, if you do not build it, you do not hold Any chance. It’s like playing the lottery. You can’t win unless you play!

Building a website can be done from the most basic form known as Domain Parking to a One page lander, Minisites and full scale dynamic development.

Considering websites really get two forms of traffic, you need to focus on both because if you are not, you will be missing out.

1.) Search: Search engine traffic is gained with so many efforts, I simply can not post them all but here are several ways to help. SEO, Incoming Links, Ads and SERP’s are normally sites main source of search traffic. Links can be ones you create by posting in comment sections while using your URL, Forums, using social networking sites or trading site links with other site owners etc. The more and Better places you reference your site, the better, but there is a fine line of too much. The bottom line, you have to put in some work to get your site noticed and there are A Lot of ways of doing it! You just have to DO it.

Link building will greatly increase your traffic and can start from Day 1!

2.) Direct Navigation: direct navigation can be from somebody simply typing in your domain name or from the efforts of advertising in one way or another. TV, Print, Radio and word of mouth. Direct Navigation is likely the most important kind of traffic, as it’s also the most targetted and likely the best to convert into sales. This is one reason why generic domain names with natural traffic cost a premium.

Getting the word out will also help increase your direct navigation traffic.

They are Here, Now What?

Now that you have real people visiting your site, are you offer something that is "worth" their visit to stay? Do you offer something different then others? Do you offer something that would make a user come back later today or tomorrow? Do you offer something that the vistor would tell a friend you have?

Does your site function correctly? Do you ask people to bookmark your site? Do you offer discounts with coupons? Do you run an affiliate program? Should you be offering your product or service through an affiliate program? How is your customer service?

Just because you build it and they do happen to come, try your best to make them come back again and again! Over and over again. Allow for your customers to become your little advertising army by giving them something to Talk About to others. Just be different, offer an honest product or service and be really proud of what you do!

    Good points and information. However, I think from a domainer prospective website building has and should have a different approach (especially for `they are here, now what` section). The best approach that I see is a website which can be built quickly (by self) or cheaply (outsource) and then can be run 90% of the time on auto pilot. For auto pilot feature, one can have pre-written articles/content, that change/update after specific time intervals. Have ebay or Amazon stores for affiliates. There are quite a few other things as well that could be added on auto-pilot or minimum maintenance basis.

    @Viqi,
    I strongly agree on the “auto pilot”. That is a very important thing to have in place. I personally have had little luck with eBay and Amazon affiliate store. Better luck with eBay, but still not all that great. Custom built tools that run off API’s are always the best or tools made from the ground up to work with an affiliate. It pays to be different ;)
