A very good domain name Jacket.com appears to be a Pending Delete domain today, but is it really?
I did a little checking into the domain name and found some interesting data. For one, I would say the domain name is NOT going to drop today.
For one, the main source of trusted information comes directly from the registry itself. Since this is a .com domain name, the registry is Verisign. Here is what their whois says:

Now you will notice the database updated date of 10-13-2009. That was 3 days ago. Domain names go into Pending Delete status for a 6 day period, with the domain dropping on the 6th day. So if the domain is showing up on sites like NameJet.com and SnapNames.com to be dropping today, that means Today (10-16-2009) would be the 6th day of Pending Delete status. Then the domain was renewed during the 3rd day of PD status based on DomainTools.com whois history records.
The domain name is registered with Tucows.
This brings up the big question of how can the domain name be renewed During Pending Delete status, because from what I am aware, a domain name can not be renewed during this period.
Using DomainTools.com whois history does show the domain expired on July 30, 2009. The last data record that shows an update is 10-13-2009 showing the domains expire date updated to July 30-2010.
A 10-14-2009 record change shows the domain registration expired date change again until July 30, 2011 as well as the domain name going into privacy.
Something is a bit fishy with this domain, since it appears to have been renewed during the Pending Delete status. Since sites like NameJet and SnapNames are showing Jacket.com listed on their sites, tells me the domain name DID reach Pending Delete status.
Here are screen shots of Jacket.com being listed on NameJet today:

And here is Jacket.com listed as a Pending Delete domain on SnapNames today:

It will be interesting to see if Jacket.com drops today during the Pending Delete drops, but I would highly bet it will not due to the status of the domain via Verisign. How this domain was renewed during Pending Delete status is the main unanswered question.
When a domain name reaches PendingDelete status, this is my understanding of what can and can not happen during this time:
PENDINGDELETE: The registry sets this status after a domain has been set in REDEMPTIONPERIOD status and the domain has not been restored by the registrar. The domain will not be included in the zone. Once in this status all registrar requests to modify or otherwise update the domain will be rejected. The domain will be purged from the registry database after being in this status for 5 calendar days.
When the domain is NOT included in the Zone, this is what tips off services like NameJet and SnapNames to create the pending delete lists they provide. This would also be why these services are showing Jacket.com as a Pending Delete domain that should drop today.
I personally can only go by whois records which are not always the most accurate or show the whole picture, but with what is provided, the quality of the domain name, and NJ and Snap showing the domain as a PD domain raises some questions.

I suspect this will be one that ends up in the TUCOWS collection…put it this way, I will be VERY SURPRISED if it does hit the auctions today.
Namejet & Pool were still showing it as pending delete last night.
…we shall soon find out !

So Verisign cheats again and renews a domain in pending delete status. They found out the domain and were not going to give it up. How they are able to change the ownership status is simple, Verisign runs the .com registry so they just turn a blind on on themselves, .
Now they have a $100,000 domain.

I beleieve one of two things could be going on the first is like the previous comment this domain may become part of tucows collection becuase this domain would be a very difficult domain to ignore this is like a 6figure or better domain .Also some guy like a wealthy guy has some strings at tucows they he is pulling . This is what i call domain inside trading he paid of the registry and gets first dibs on any domain he wants
Tony
Was this available for backorder at Namejet last night?
Jamie Zoch
@Tony,
Yes and today (this morning) as that is when I took the screen shot.
Tony
I saw it was on Tucows and missed the Namejet backorder deadline.
It might still go there. $100K for it would be a good deal.
Jamie Zoch
@Tony,
No worries because Jacket.com never dropped today as I expected….
Dodo
I think this could be a deal between Tucows and the drop catching sites , hidden deal !
This domain sold in 2004 for $20,000 according to DNsaleprice.com , personally I may buy it , up to $50,000 maximum !
Good luck for every body , especially me
Gazzip
If registrars carry on like this then all the decent drops will be going the way of the Dodo !
Dodo
Not my way Gazzip ,this is only a hunch !
BTW , the domain listed at Sedo , I submitted an offer , and i received a counter offer immediately , this shows that the owner of the domain is actively domaining , and he must had renewed the domain in the time .
Tomorrow we will see !
Gazzip
Good luck Dodo, just make the cheque payable to Tucows.com
..just a hunch !
