Here are a couple recent domain name sales that have taken place over at Sedo. I keep telling myself that I shouldn’t be surprised by any domain name, selling at any price because I keep seeing it… but I keep getting surprised! As with any domain name, maybe I just do not have the knowledge of the term and that is why the sales price surprises me and that could be the case with the headliner today.
XXLPoster.com sold for $17,850 EUR ($24,511 USD at today’s rates). I had to Google It and that still didn’t really answer any of my questions. Most of the return results for the search term xxl poster return with the term backwards. Poster XXL. That may be because a site XXLPoster.com ranks #1 and many of the returning results on P1 are for coupons for XXL Poster.
I think it’s fair to say that PosterXXL.com could be a potential buyer of XXLPoster.com.
Using metrics that I normally use as a guide (whois.domaintools.com and the Site Profile tab) there is no indication the domain name has much, if any traffic. The domain has a current registration of 2006 and did drop from the registry twice. The domain has 18 indexed pages in Google.
XXLPoster.com doesn’t fit the "normal" $24K sale in my book, but the fact is, it sold for $24,511 USD.
A couple more domain name sales over at Sedo for yesterday and today so far include:
Marketing.info $10,099 killer keyword and makes a lot of sense with the TLD. I just haven’t been that big of a fan of .info and I have never purchased one. I do not see them rank all that great when I do searches on SE’s but I’m sure they do rank or people wouldn’t be paying $xx,xxx for them.
Emas.com $8,000 GBP Very strong 4 letter .com (VCVC)
My.md $5,000 Domain hacks are pretty popular, .md not so much. I haven’t seen many .md domain sales, but this hack (domain that works with the TLD to become a phrase) is pretty catchy. The biggest problem, not many people know .md is a "domain" so it isn’t always the first thing that pops into most people’s head. MyDoctor.com people know… I can visit that and see a website. My.md many will not even know it’s a domain name!
Ltevergleich.de $5,000 EUR
Lte-vergleich.de $5,000 EUR Interesting to see them both sell for $5K each, even though one has a hyphen.
Cuisines.net $4,700 EUR
TouchBanking.com $3,500 USD. The term itself doesn’t mean anything to me but it does to somebody.
RedLight.net $2,500 EUR A brandable type domain to refers to something many of see every single day.
IronSight.com $2,185 Likely to become some kind of gun site.
Roiet.com $2,050 EUR Not sure what this is without looking. Appears to be a GEO domain Roi Et.
QuidBid.com $1,800 There is an auction site with a similar name (QuiBids), so they have been the buyer or somebody simply after the typo traffic.
Haio.com $1,650 Nice 4 letter .com that I wouldn’t be surprised to see another 0 added to it if it sold again. It happens often at Afternic. (nice 4L’s selling for 5 figures)
Beem.tv $1,599 It wasn’t that long ago that .tv was built around a lot of hype, but that has seemed to fade. I haven’t seen a ton of .tv sales but I have seen a couple.
Nothing all that great in this list for keywords (Marketing.info) was the best but still some strong sales based on the keywords.

TouchBannking could be for smartphones with touch screens or some banking phone app. But every week there are sales that don’t make sense.

@Teen,
That’s kind of what I was thinking when I saw the domain as well. Likely a future site for an app for banking.

If you showed the prices of domain sold to the guy on the street, what do you think he will think…
